Van Gogh Museum tickets: how they work, where to buy, and what to do when your date is gone

The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam sells timed-entry tickets online only. This guide explains how the system works, which sellers are legitimate, and how Slotwatch can watch for availability on the dates you want.

Timed entry, online only

Every visitor needs a ticket for a specific date and entry time slot. There is no ticket desk for walk-up sales at the museum, so planning ahead matters, especially between April and October and around public holidays.

Entry slots typically run from the morning opening until the late afternoon. Once you are inside you can stay as long as you like during opening hours; the time slot only governs when you enter.

Where to buy legitimately

The official shop is tickets.vangoghmuseum.com. It sells at face value and is the first place to look. Authorised resellers such as Tiqets and GetYourGuide also sell timed-entry tickets, sometimes bundled with an audio guide or a canal cruise. Their prices and cancellation terms differ from the museum's, so read them before you buy.

Avoid marketplaces or private sellers offering tickets above face value or without a named time slot. Tickets are personal and checked at the door.

  • Official shop: face value, museum terms
  • Authorised resellers: own prices, sometimes bundles, own cancellation rules
  • Unknown resale sites: not recommended

What happens when a date sells out

Popular dates can sell out well in advance. Availability is not static, though. Orders get cancelled, the museum and its partners manage capacity, and resellers receive allocations at different moments. That means a sold-out date can show open slots again, sometimes briefly.

Slotwatch exists for exactly that moment. You tell us your dates, group size and preferred times, and we check permitted availability sources on a schedule. When matching tickets appear, you get an e-mail with a direct link to the booking page.

What Slotwatch is not

We do not sell tickets, we do not reserve them, and we are not affiliated with the Van Gogh Museum. Our one-time fee pays for the monitoring and the alert. The admission ticket is always bought from the seller at their price, and we cannot guarantee that tickets will become available.
